When this home was re-built 5 years ago, the homeowners kept these phenomenal leaded glass cabinet doors with plans to repurpose them. After some back-and-forth, we were able to come up with a design that no only fits the home’s aesthetic and proportions, but incorporates these beautiful doors into its lovingly updated interior.
The cabinetry is all built by hand in our West Denver workshop. These bookcases are packed with features that set them apart from anything that could be bought pre-made:
Large plywood carcasses with fixed shelving look clean and tidy, and allow for an installation that conceals all mounting hardware.
A parting bead and entablature mimic the look of the home’s craftsman trim, but are scaled up proportionate to their height and hierarchy within the room.
The face frames are beaded hard maple and wrap continuously around the corners, requiring a lot of planning to create these perfect reveals on either side of the exterior door and still allow room for the head cornice to sit at its proper length and reveals.
The crown moulding is made to match the existing crown and was carefully coped into what was already installed.
The home’s original baseboard wraps around these built-ins. We redirected the floor hvac vent through a custom register built into the baseboard
The solid maple dovetailed drawers are wider than can be accomplished with standard hardware, so we went with Blum Movento drawer slides with synchronizing rods that keep the drawer operating smoothly without any racking or binding despite their wide and shallow form factor
The face frame around the drawer bank was extended to account for the overhang of the countertop moulding for equal sight lines all the way around. The sides of the face frames were all oversized by 1” to allow for scribing to the walls in case anything was out of plumb or to account for any waves or bumps.
