A Fitting Entrance for a Congress Park Classic

When this 1907 Italianate residence was originally built, it occupied a double lot. At some point, it was split into two parcels and a second home was built, which meant that they original entry was moved to what was formerly a service entrance. The clients wanted to dress up this entryway with some wainscoting, a radiator cover, and a restored entry door to reveal the original quarter-sawn white oak under several layers of paint.

We stripped and salvaged as much of the original trim as possible and replicated what we couldn’t save. The stiles and rails and panel moulding is maple for durability and crisp shadow lines. The radiator covers hold solid brass woven mesh and are removable for maintenance. We brought plasterers in to make a former doorway disappear.
